เทคนิคเดาศัพท์ ขณะอ่านภาษาอังกฤษ ที่ผมใช้

สวัสดีครับ
บ่อยครั้งที่ผมเขียนในบทความว่า เมื่ออ่านภาษาอังกฤษและติดศัพท์, ควรหัดเดาความหมายของศัพท์ที่ติด, เมื่อเดาบ่อย ๆ เราก็จะเดาได้เก่งขึ้นเร็วขึ้น, และผมได้แนะนำ 2 แหล่งที่ท่านสามารถเข้าไปฝึกวิทยายุทธการเดา ข้างล่างนี้
แล้วผมก็มานั่งนึกดูว่า ทำไมผมไม่แนะนำวิธีที่ตัวเองใช้เดา มันอาจจะเป็นวิธีลูกทุ่ง ที่พูดง่าย ๆ สั้น ๆ ไม่ถูกต้องตามหลักวิชาการ แต่ถ้าหากว่าผมใช้ได้ผล และเมื่อเล่าออกไป มีอีกสัก 2 – 3 คนใช้ได้ผลบ้าง ก็ถือว่าเล่าไม่เสียเที่ยว พอคิดได้อย่างนี้ ผมก็จะขอเล่าล่ะครับว่าผมใช้วิธีอะไรในการเดาศัพท์เมื่ออ่านภาษาอังกฤษ ซึ่งสรุปง่าย ๆ มี 3 ข้อเท่านั้น คือ
ข้อ 1: ดูให้ออกว่าว่า ศัพท์ตัวที่เราติดนั้นมันเป็นคำอะไร เช่น มันเป็น noun หรือ verb หรือ adjective หรือ adverb
ข้อ 2: นอกจากดูเป็นคำ ๆ แล้ว, ให้ดูเป็นกลุ่ม ๆ ด้วย เช่น กลุ่มคำซึ่งทำหน้าที่เป็นประธานของประโยค, เป็นกริยาของประโยค, เป็นกรรมของประโยค, เป็นกลุ่มส่วนขยาย
ข้อ 3: ให้ดูคำที่เกี่ยวข้องกัน (ที่เรียกหรู ๆ ว่าบริบท) แล้วพยายามเดา เช่น
-ถ้าศัพท์ที่เราติดเป็นประธาน, ถ้าเรารู้กริยาและกรรมของของประธานตัวนี้, เราพอจะเดาได้ไหมว่าประธานตัวนี้ คืออะไร
-ถ้าศัพท์ที่เราติดเป็น adjective, ซึ่งมีหน้าที่ขยาย noun, เมื่อดูคำ noun แล้ว เราพอจะเดาได้ไหมว่า adjective ตัวนี้มันน่าจะมีความหมายไปในทำนองไหน เช่น มีความหมายในแง่ บวก-ลบ, ซ้าย-ขวา, ใหญ่-เล็ก, ฯลฯ เราอาจจะเดาคร่าว ๆ อย่างนี้ก่อนก็ได้ โดยยังไม่ต้องไปรู้ความหมายที่เจาะจงเด็ดขาดของมัน
เมื่อดูทั้ง 3 ข้อนี้ ท่านจะเห็นได้ชัดเจนเลยว่า การจะเดาความหมายของคำศัพท์ให้ได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ สิ่งที่ท่านจะต้องมีเป็นทุนตุนใส่กระเป๋าไว้ก่อน คือ เรื่องของ part of speech คือ ชนิด ตำแหน่ง หน้าที่ ของคำต่าง ๆ ในประโยค โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่ง คำ noun, verb, adjective, adverb
พูดอีกทีก็คือ การที่จะเดาศัพท์ได้เก่ง ท่านจะต้องสามารถแยกแยะโครงสร้างประโยคให้ได้นั่นเอง คือ ไม่ว่าประโยคที่อ่านจะยาวแค่ไหน ถ้าท่านสามารถหั่นมันออกเป็นชิ้น ๆ ได้ถูกต้อง เหมือนหมอผ่าตัด เมื่อเอามีดกรีดแหวกอกหรือท้องของคน ก็รู้จักว่า นี่เป็นปอด, หัวใจ, ตับ, ไต, ไส้, ม้าม, กระเพาะ เมื่อเห็นแล้วก็ผ่าได้ถูกตำแหน่ง ไม่ใช่เป็นโรคปอดแต่ดันไปผ่ากระเพาะ เราเองก็เช่นเดียวกัน ถ้าเห็นประโยคแล้วยังมองไม่ออกว่า ไอ้คำนี้เป็น verb หรือ adjective หรือ noun และมันเกี่ยวข้องหรือขยายอะไร หรือถูกอะไรขยาย ถ้าตรงนี้ยังมองไม่เห็น โอกาสจะมั่วก็มีมาก

17 dead in Bangladesh charity handout stampede: police
DHAKA - At least 17 people were killed on Friday in a stampede during a handout of free clothes at a factory in the northern Bangladeshi city of Mymensingh, police said.
The stampede erupted when hundreds of people tried to force their way into the factory compound through a small gate after massing outside the building before dawn, local police chiefs told AFP.
"We have so far recovered 17 bodies. Most of the dead are poor and emaciated women," Mymensingh police chief Moinul Haque told AFP.
Kamrul Islam, the senior officer at a police station near the factory, said the death toll could rise.
"Some people had taken the bodies of their relatives before police arrived at the scene," he said.
The owner of the factory and six others have been arrested, Islam added.
Police said up to 1,500 people had massed outside the chewing tobacco factory at around 4:45 am (2245 GMT on Thursday) after the plant owners had announced they would distribute free clothes to poor people in accordance with Islamic ritual.
Rich Bangladeshis often distribute free clothes to poor people during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

การที่เราพยายามแยกคำเป็นกลุ่ม ๆ นี้ เพื่อมองให้ออกว่า ศัพท์คำที่เราติดนั้น มันอยู่ในกลุ่มคำที่บอกอะไร เช่น บอกเวลา, บอกสถานที่, บอกข้อมูลบุคคล, บอกเหตุผล, บอกการกระทำ, หรือเป็นเพียงคำขยายที่ช่วยให้ คำ noun กระจ่างขึ้น
และเมื่อถึงเวลาที่เราต้องเดา เราก็เดาให้มันอยู่ในแนวทางนี้

ท่านผู้อ่านครับ ถ้าท่านรู้สึกว่าขั้นตอนปฏิบัติการเดาที่อธิบายมานี้ช่างยุ่งยาก ผมขอบอกว่า เมื่ออธิบายมันก็ต้องยาวอย่างนี้แหละครับ แต่ถ้าท่านไปอ่านตำรารามคำแหง(เล่มที่ผมแนะนำ)ให้เข้าใจ (หรือตำราเล่มอื่นก็ได้ที่อธิบายเรื่องประเภทของคำและโครงสร้างประโยค) พอเข้าใจเรื่องนี้แน่น ถึงเวลาที่จะเดามันก็เดาได้ง่าย ไม่เสียเวลามาก และแม้จะเดาไม่ออก อย่างน้อยก็รู้ว่า คำแปลมันน่าจะออกมาในแนวไหน
