ผมเชื่อว่าท่านผู้อ่านจำนวนไม่น้อย เคยอ่านคำสอนของท่านอาจารย์พุทธทาสภิกขุ แผ่นนี้ ท่านค่อย ๆ อ่านดูอีกสักครั้งนะครับ

     วันนี้ผมไปเจอคำแปลเป็นภาษาอังกฤษของคำสอนนี้ ซึ่งมี 2 สำนวน
สำนวนแปลที่ 1 พระไทยแปล และพระฝรั่งช่วย - คลิก
สำนวนแปลที่ 2 ผู้แปล คือ Susan F. Kepner, University of California, Berkeley - คลิก
     ผมจึงขอถือโอกาสนำทั้งภาษาไทย และภาษาอังกฤษ ทั้ง 2 สำนวนมาเทียบกัน ขอฝากเป็นธรรมแด่ท่านผู้อ่านครับ

ภาษาอังกฤษบรรทัดแรก คือ สำนวนแปลที่ 1

ข้อสังเกต:

สำนวนที่ 1 ใช้คำว่า He แทน เพื่อนมนุษย์ และขึ้นต้นทุกประโยคด้วยคำว่า He

สำนวนที่ 2 ใช้คำว่า they  แทน เพื่อนมนุษย์  และขึ้นต้นประโยคด้วย  They บ้าง, ภาคขยาย บ้าง

จงทำกับเพื่อนมนุษย์โดยคิดว่า

เขาเป็นเพื่อนเกิด แก่ เจ็บ ตาย ของเรา.

He is under the power of defilements like us, hence he sometimes errs.
Living under the power of attachments, like us
เขาก็มีราคะ โทสะ โมหะ ไม่น้อยไปกว่าเรา.
He also has lust, hatred, and delusion, no less than we.
Subject to desire, rage, and delusion, and
เขาย่อมพลั้งเผลาบางคราว เหมือนเรา.
He therefore errs sometimes, like us.
Careless in their ways, like us
เขาก็ไม่รู้ว่าเกิดมาทำไม เหมือนเรา ไม่รู้จักนิพพานเหมือนเรา.
He neither knows why he was born nor knows nibbana, just the same as us.
Having no idea why they were born, as we have no idea
เขาโง่ในบางอย่าง เหมือนที่เราเคยโง่.
He is stupid in some things like we used to be.
Stupid in some things, as we are sometimes stupid
เขาก็ตามใจ ตัวเองในบางอย่าง เหมือนที่เราเคยกระทำ.
He does some things accordingly to his own likes, the same as we used to do.
Indulging their own whims, as we indulge ours
เขาก็อยากดี เหมือนเรา ที่อยาก ดี – เด่น – ดัง.
He also wants to be good, as well as we who want even more to be good -
outstanding - famous.
Wanting to be good, perhaps prominent, even famous
เขาก็มัก จะกอบโกย และ เอาเปรียบ เมื่อมีโอกาสเหมือนเรา.
He often takes much and much more from others whenever he has a chance, just
like us.
Taking advantage of opportunities to take advantage of others, like us.
เขามีสิทธิที่จะบ้า ดี – เมาดี – หลงดี – จมดี เหมือนเรา.
He has the right to be madly good, drunkenly good, deludedly good, and drowning
in good, just like us.
They have the right to be crazy, to get drunk, to become obsessed
เขาเป็นคนธรรมดา ที่ยึดมั่นถือมั่น อะไรต่าง ๆ เหมือนเรา.
He is an ordinary man attached to many things, just like us.
They are ordinary people who cling to this or that, as we do
เขาไม่มีหน้าที่ ที่จะเป็นทุกข์ หรือตายแทนเรา.
He does not have the duty to suffer or die for us.
They are under no obligation to suffer or die in our place

เขาเป็นเพื่อน ร่วมชาติ ร่วมศาสนา กะเรา.
He is our friend of the same nation and religion.
They are our fellow citizens, in secular and spiritual realms
เขาก็ทำอะไร ด้วยความคิดชั่วแล่น และผลุนผลัน เหมือนเรา.
He does things impetuously and abruptly just as we do.
They behave sometimes in haste, carelessly, like us
เขามีหน้าที่รับผิดชอบ ต่อครอบครัวของเขา มิใช่ของเรา.
He has the duty to be responsible for his own family, not for ours.
They have the duty to be responsible for their families, not for ours
เขามีสิทธิ ที่จะมีรสนิยม ตามพอใจของเขา.
He has the right to his own tastes and preferences.
The have the right to their own tastes, their own definition of well-being
เขามีสิทธิ ที่จะเลือก (แม้ศาสนา) ตามพอใจของเขา.
He has the right to choose anything (even a religion) for his own satisfaction.
They have the right to choose (even their religion) to suit themselves

He has the human right, equal to us, to be in this world.

ถ้าเราคิดกันอย่างนี้ จะไม่มีการ ขัดแย้งใด ๆ เกิดขึ้น.
If we think in these ways, no conflicts will occur.
Could we all but think this way, conflict and discord would not arise.
