ผมจะหาเรื่องที่อ่านสนุกและมีคติมานำเสนอเรื่อย ๆ โดย Part 1 จะลงภาษาอังกฤษให้ท่านอ่าน และใน Part 2 จะลงทีละประโยคสั้น ๆ ภาษาอังกฤษตามด้วยคำแปลภาษาไทย

วันนี้ขอเสนอเรื่องที่ 1 Maybe
Once upon the time there was an old farmer who had worked his crops for many years. One day his horse ran away. Upon hearing the news, his neighbors came to visit. “Such bad luck,” they said sympathetically.
“Maybe,” the farmer replied.
The next morning the horse returned, bringing with it three other wild horses. “How wonderful,” the neighbors exclaimed.
“Maybe,” replied the old man.
The following day, his son tried to ride one of the untamed horses, was thrown, and broke his leg. The neighbors again came to offer their sympathy on his misfortune.
“Maybe,” answered the farmer.
The day after, military officials came to the village to draft young men into the army. Seeing that the son’s leg was broken, they passed him by. The neighbors congratulated the farmer on how well things had turned out.
“Maybe,” said the farmer.

เรื่องที่ 1: Maybe-คงยังงั้นแหละ
Once upon the time
กาลครั้งหนึ่ง
there was an old farmer
มีชาวนาผู้เฒ่าคนหนึ่ง
who had worked his crops for many years.
ซึ่งทำไร่ไถนามาหลายปี
One day his horse ran away.
วันหนึ่งม้าของพ่อเฒ่าวิ่งหายไปไหนก็ไม่รู้
Upon hearing the news, his neighbors came to visit.
พอได้ยินข่าว เพื่อนบ้านพากันมาเยี่ยม
“Such bad luck,” they said sympathetically.
และพูดอย่างเห็นใจว่า “โชคร้ายจังเลยนะ”
“Maybe,” the farmer replied.
“คงยังงั้นแหละ” ชาวนาตอบ
The next morning the horse returned,
เช้าวันรุ่งขึ้น ม้าตัวที่หายไปก็กลับมา
bringing with it three other wild horses.
และนำม้าป่าตามมาด้วยอีก 3 ตัว
“How wonderful,” the neighbors exclaimed.
เพื่อนบ้านเห็นก็ตื่นเต้นร้องว่า “เยี่ยมไปเลย”
“Maybe,” replied the old man.
“คงยังงั้นแหละ” พ่อเฒ่าตอบ

วันถัดมา ลูกชายของพ่อเฒ่าพยายามขึ้นขี่ม้าป่าตัวหนึ่งที่ไม่เชื่อง

แต่ม้าพยศ สะบัดเขาล่วงจากหลังม้าจนขาหัก
The neighbors again came to offer their sympathy on his misfortune.
เพื่อนบ้านก็เข้ามาแสดงความเสียใจในความโชคร้าย
“Maybe,” answered the farmer.
“คงยังงั้นแหละ” ชาวนาก็ตอบไปตามเดิม
The day after, military officials came to the village
วันถัดมาอีก พวกทหารมาที่หมู่บ้าน
to draft young men into the army.
เพื่อเกณฑ์ชายฉกรรจ์ไปเป็นทหารในกองทัพ
Seeing that the son’s leg was broken, they passed him by.
เมื่อเห็นลูกชายชาวนาขาหัก พวกทหารก็เดินผ่านเขาไปไม่เอาไปเป็นทหาร
The neighbors congratulated the farmer
ชาวบ้านก็เข้ามาแสดงความยินดีกับชาวนาผู้เฒ่า
on how well things had turned out.
ในโชคร้ายที่กลับกลายเป็นโชคดี
“Maybe,” said the farmer.
“คงยังงั้นแหละ” ชาวนาตอบตามเคย
