ฝึกจำศัพท์ 1,000 คำ ให้ได้ โดยไม่ใช่เอาแต่ท่อง
สวัสดีครับ
ถ้าท่านมีความรู้สึกว่า ตัวเองศัพท์อ่อน ที่เคยรู้มาก็ลืมไปแทบจะเกลี้ยงแล้ว อยากจะฟื้นฟูศัพท์พื้นฐานสัก 1000 คำ เพื่อเป็นต้นทุนในการฟิต ฟัง-พูด-อ่าน-เขียน ภาษาอังกฤษ ท่านก็สามารถให้ Google หาศัพท์ 1000 คำนี้ได้อย่างง่าย ๆ
ต่อจากนี้ ท่านก็อาจจะตั้งหน้าตั้งตาท่อง เพื่อจำ 1000 คำนี้ให้ได้ ถ้าท่านจะทำอย่างนี้ผมก็อนุโมทนาด้วย และขอให้ประสบความสำเร็จอย่างที่ตั้งใจในเร็ววัน
แต่จากประสบการณ์ส่วนตัว การเอาแต่ท่องอย่างเดียว เป็นงานหนักมากเกินไป และทำให้สมองเครียด จำได้ช้า เราควรทำอย่างอื่นไปพร้อม ๆ กัน เช่น
- ดูคำศัพท์ภาษาอังกฤษแต่ปิดคำแปล พยายามนึกว่ามันแปลว่าอะไร แล้วจึงค่อยเปิดดูคำแปล อย่าดูทันทีโดยไม่ได้นึก
- หาประโยคตัวอย่างที่แต่งด้วยคำศัพท์มาศึกษา นี่คือการจำศัพท์พร้อมประโยค ไม่ใช่เอาแต่จำคำศัพท์พร้อมคำแปลแต่ไม่เห็นประโยคที่แสดงการใช้คำศัพท์ ประโยคตัวอย่างนี้จะช่วยให้ท่านจำคำแปลศัพท์ได้ง่ายและลืมยาก อีกทั้งช่วยฝึกทักษะการอ่าน หรือ reading skill อีกด้วย
- พยายามฝึกออกเสียงคำศัพท์ให้ได้อย่างมั่นใจ เพราะถ้าเราไม่มั่นใจในการออกเสียง หรือไม่เคยออกเสียงด้วยปากของตัวเองออกมาดัง ๆ อย่างมั่นใจ ศัพท์ตัวนี้เราจะจำได้ยากและลืมง่าย
วันนี้ผมนำศัพท์พื้นฐานมาให้ท่านดูข้างล่างนี้ ขอแนะนำให้ท่านไล่ดูไปทีละตัว ตัวไหนรู้คำแปลและออกเสียงได้แล้วก็ผ่านไป แต่ตัวไหนที่ไม่รู้หรือไม่แน่ใจ ทั้งคำแปลและการออกเสียง ก็ดับเบิ้ลคลิกเพื่อศึกษา
เมื่อดับเบิ้ลคลิกศัพท์ 1000 คำข้างล่างนี้ ท่านจะเห็นคำแปลและประโยคตัวอย่าง จาก Cambridge English – Thai Dictionary

ศึกษา idiom ที่เกี่ยวกับอวัยวะ จนเข้าใจและใช้เป็น

สำนวนหรือ idiom เป็นเรื่องที่น่าสนใจ เพราะมันจะติดมากับถ้อยคำที่ฝรั่งพูดหรือเขียนไม่มากก็น้อย เรื่องนี้เราหามาศึกษาได้ไม่ยาก แค่ให้ Google ช่วย Search
เพื่อสะดวกในการศึกษา หลายเว็บจึงแบ่ง idiom เป็นหมวด ๆ และมีอยู่หมวดหนึ่งที่น่าสนใจมาก คือ idiom ที่เกี่ยวกับอวัยวะส่วนต่าง ๆ ของร่างกาย ซึ่งในลิงก์ภาษาไทย ก็มีให้ศึกษา แต่รู้สึกว่าจะมีน้อย

ท่านผู้อ่านครับ ถ้าถามว่า เราศึกษา idiom ของฝรั่งไปทำไม? คำตอบก็น่าจะมี 2 ข้อ คือ
(1) ตอนเราฟังเขาพูดหรืออ่านที่เขาเขียน เราจะได้เข้าใจ ข้อนี้ไม่ยาก ถ้าจำได้ก็ใช้ได้
(2) ถ้าโอกาสเหมาะ เราก็หยิบ idiom นี้ไปใช้พูดหรือเขียนบ้าง มันอาจจะช่วยให้การสื่อสารของเราได้อารมณ์มากขึ้น แต่การจะหยิบ idiom มาใช้พูดหรือเขียนอย่างมั่นใจนี้ เราก็น่าจะมีประสบการณ์ในการได้ยินฝรั่งพูด idiom นี้จนเจนหู และอ่าน idiom นี้ที่ฝรั่งเขียนจนเจนตา ครั้นพอถึงเวลาที่เราจะพูดหรือเขียนด้วย idiom พวกนี้บ้าง เราจะได้มั่นใจ

มีหลายคำคล้าย ๆ กัน, จะใช้คำไหนดี?
สวัสดีครับ
ภาษาอังกฤษมีคำศัพท์มากมาย บ่อยครั้งเรานึกถึงคำศัพท์กลุ่มหนึ่ง ซึ่งมีหลายคำคล้าย ๆ กัน เช่น big, large, great, huge เราก็อาจจะงงว่า ในด้านความหมาย หรือแกรมมาร์ แต่ละคำมันต่างกันอย่างไร
ถ้าเราเข้าไปดูในดิกซึ่งให้ความหมายและรายละเอียดเป็นคำ ๆ บางทีเราก็ยังมองไม่เห็นชัดถึงความต่างอยู่นั่นเอง เพราะถ้าจะให้ชัด ผู้อธิบายจะต้องยกคำที่เราสงสัยมาแจกแจงเปรียบเทียบพร้อมกัน ให้เห็นชัด
ถ้าท่านมีความสงสัยทำนองนี้ วิธีที่ง่ายที่สุดในการหาคำอธิบาย ทำได้โดยไปที่ Google และพิมพ์คำพวกนี้ คั่นด้วยคำว่า vs, Google ก็จะไปตระเวนหาคำอธิบายจากเว็บไซต์ต่าง ๆ มาให้ท่านอ่าน เช่น
- big vs large vs great
- beautiful vs pretty
- help vs assist
- how are you? vs how are you doing?
- different from vs different than
- say vs speak
เมื่อได้อ่านคำอธิบายจากหลาย ๆ เว็บ ซึ่งอาจจะเหมือนกันหรือต่างกันบ้าง ก็จะช่วยให้ท่านกระจ่างและแตกฉานในคำศัพท์ (วลี/ประโยค) ที่ท่านสงสัย
โดยส่วนตัว ในเรื่องนี้ผมชอบคำอธิบายจากดิกฉบับมาตรฐานมากเป็นพิเศษ โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งดิก Oxford และ Longman
เมื่อท่านพิมพ์คำศัพท์ลงไป ถ้าศัพท์คำนั้นมีคำศัพท์ใกล้เคียงกัน ในด้านความหมายหรือแกรมมาร์ ที่ผู้ใช้อาจสับสน เขาก็จะมีคำอธิบายเพิ่มเติมให้ทันที โดยดิก Oxford จะอยู่ใต้หัวข้อ Which Word? และดิก Longman จะอยู่ใต้หัวข้อ WORD CHOICE
สาเหตุที่ผมชอบคำอธิบายที่ดิกทั้งสองนี้มากเป็นพิเศษก็เพราะมันให้คำอธิบายที่ง่าย, กระชับ,ชัดเจน และการจัดกรอบของหน้าและฟอนต์ที่น่าอ่าน
สำหรับท่านที่มีความสุขกับคำศัพท์ หรือชอบออกกำลังสมองให้แข็งแรงโดยเล่นกับศัพท์ เมื่อท่านมีเวลาว่าง ผมขอชวนให้ท่านลองคลิกเข้าไปดู Which Word? ที่ดิก Oxford และ WORD CHOICE ที่ดิก Longman ทีละคำ ๆ มันจะเป็นการ review และเพิ่มพูนความรู้เกี่ยวกับคำศัพท์ได้เป็นอย่างดี
